The SDR-S2972 can be implemented in a wide range of applications, including broadcasting, mobile phones, GPS, WiFi, ISMFM, and TV signal processing. Users can utilize GNU Radio for rapid development of wireless radio projects or participate in some open-source software radio projects. UHD-based support allows users to reuse existing designs on different USRP devices. For example, open-source apps such as HDSDR and OpenBTS, both can support multiple SDR-S devices.
The SDR-S2972 uses the AD9361 integrated RF front-end. The AD9361 supports direct up-and-down-conversion of the RF side, providing bandwidth up to 56MHz in real time, and uses the AD9361’s dual signal chains to provide coherent MIMO capability. The host computer communicates with the FPGA, which uses the Artix 7 XC7A200T model, for signal processing and control of the AD9361, via USB 3.0.
